“Never judge and always believe.” These are the lessons that Susan Pulido learned in her early years as a rape crisis responder. It was in that work that Susan, now a Confidential Advocate at Sonoma State University, found her calling. Awed by the efforts these young victims of sexual trauma made to continue to pursue their education she set out to change a culture that has become all too common on college campuses all across the country. “1 in 4 women will experience sexual violence in their college years,” Susan tells me. “We have an obligation to stand up for one another.”
As you listen to this conversation, ask yourself:
“I have tremendous faith in our young people,” Susan says as she gets ready to retire. “They’re going to act up and do what needs to be done.”
