In this episode, Dianne talks about a recent tour of the castles of King Ludwig II of Bavaria that she and her family took over the weekend. The Burckhardts saw three castles on their weeknd tour and were able to see inside of two of them. The third was only seen from a distance. You can see photos of these in the corresponding blog post at www.BurckhardtBooks.com/blog-ramblings.
The first castle on their tour was the Linderhof Palace. To get to this castle the group had to hike up a short hill. However, to see the Neuschwanstein castle, visitors could take a horse drawn cart halfway up the mountain and hike from there. Dianne did not like the condition the horses looked to be in, so she chose to hike the entire way up the mountain to the castle instead. Her family was not thrilled with the long hike, but agreed with her reasons. The third castle the tour group saw from a distance but did not go into was Hohenschwangau castle. You can see this one from the balcony of the Neuschwanstein castle.
