Often in today's world, we hear that relationships are so much harder to cultivate or that they don't really exist like in the past. As we've seen throughout our readings, people don't change. We may have different technology, but at our core, we are still the same as we were hundreds of years ago.
In today's reading of Proverbs 17, Spurgeon focuses on verse 17 that speaks of the value of true friendship. Yet, he states,
"There is one thing about the usefulness of which all men are agreed, namely, friendship. But most men are soon aware that counterfeits of friendship are common as autumn leaves. Few men enjoy from others the highest and truest form of friendship. The friendships of this world are hollow. They are as unsubstantial as a dream, as soon dissipated as a bubble, as light as thistledown. "
So, take heart as we read Proverbs 17 that the wisdom it offered thousands of years ago is still valid today because people are, at our core, are the same today as then!
