While I may not sit and dine with rulers often, the sayings and insights provided by Solomon continue to have daily applications. The four that struck me today are:
Do not speak to fools, for they will scorn your prudent words. Proverbs 23:9
Have you tried to help someone that just doesn't want help? This verse really speaks to me about the times I've tried harder than the person needing help.
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD.
There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18
When times are tough, I often look at those that I KNOW are not doing God's will and wish I had their success, but God has a plan for me that is better than their wealth or supposed happiness.
My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways, Proverbs 23:26
God wants our hearts and all that we are.
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine,
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Proverbs 23:29-30
Too much wine and drink leads to a life lived in a haze where we don't know what is happening. To live our best and most fulfilled life, we must be sober and clear minded.
Thank God for His insights and wisdom for our lives today. Join me in reading Proverbs 23 and be encouraged!
