Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble. The LORD protects and preserves them— they are counted among the blessed in the land— he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. Psalms 41:1-2

Psalm 41 is the last of chapter in the first book of the Psalms. Technically, Psalms is broken into five smaller books. Like Psalm 1, Psalm 41 starts with a promise for blessings if we walk rightly with God. Psalm 1 started with the promise of blessings for those who don't walk with the wicked and 41 closes with us watching over the weak.

An open heart toward the weak and poor is a quality that identifies God’s people and brings God’s blessing. David opens Psalm 41 with the beatitude, “Blessed is the one who considers the poor!” In Psalm 41 this blessing is the foundation of David’s hope. Evidently David was very sick, and his enemies took this opportunity to plot against him. David’s hope was that God would remember his care for the needy and bless him.
