You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us; you have been angry —now restore us! Psalms 60:1

Have you felt all alone when facing a huge trial? Have you wondered, "Where's God in this?" I know I have and so did the Israelites! Psalm 60 is a lament from the people as they experienced a crushing defeat that caused them to believe God had abandoned them.

This psalm is a national lament written after the unexpected military setback alluded to in 2 Samuel 8:13 and 1 Chronicles 18:12. While David and the main part of his army were fighting in the northern part of the country, one of Israel’s other neighboring enemies, Edom, successfully attacked the southern part of Judah. David ultimately prevailed in victory. The psalm expresses the feelings of a people shocked and confused by a tragedy which suggested that God had abandoned them.

Thankfully, it wasn't the case. So join me in reading Psalm 60 and be encouraged!
