Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;  have mercy on me and hear my prayer. Psalms 4:1

As a leader, when things are going poorly, where do you turn? Often, I turn inward instead of upward. When things aren't working, I often try to figure things out and that isn't a bad thing because that's my job. However, I have to remember David's example, he first turned to God then to the plan and speaking with his people.

Israel, and therefore, King David, are facing a famine and the leaders and people are turning from David and God! As a result, David has to address his people, but before he does that, he pleads with God to hear his prayer and to bless him and his people. Once he's reached out to God, then he addresses his people and their circumstances.
