Listen to my words, LORD, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Psalms 5:1-3

I love how David is so comfortable with God that he knows God will answer his prayers. Because he knows God, he goes before Him not with special words and elaborate prayers, but groans and pleas. Kent Hughes puts it this way,
"People who don’t know God well think they have to pray with special words. Their prayers sound like a formula with set words and phrases. But if you know God, you can come to him without putting on your makeup. You pour out your unvarnished thoughts to him. If you had a good father, you talk to God the way you would talk to your dad—you are respectful but completely comfortable that he loves you and understands.
David was also confident that God heard his prayer and would answer."

Join me in reading Psalms 5 and be encouraged that we can approach God just as we are.
