With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries. Revelation 17:2
The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. Revelation 17:4
I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. Revelation 17:6
The prostitute is clothed in royal garments of purple, has great wealth and the kings and inhabitants of the earth are intoxicated with her actions! Sin covers itself with the fineries and trappings of this world but it's still ugly and hideous at it's core. No garments of purple or cups made of gold and gems can hide its true nature.
When John saw her, he was astonished! Will I be astonished with how much blood I have on my hands at the end when I realize my continued sins supported the prostitute and lead to the death of God's people? Am I "intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries"? Am I fighting hard enough against her or taking the easy way out? These are tough questions, but they need answered. So, join me in reading chapter 17 and be encouraged!
