Description

Many teenagers are clearly not operating with fully developed brains - especially young men.

So no one should be surprised to hear about several 18 year olds out causing trouble in the dark of night.

But some take things too far, and that's usually when someone gets hurt. In the case of Alexa Bartell it was deadly.

On the night of April 19th, 2023, somewhere between 10pm and midnight, Ms Bartell was driving home from work on a somewhat remote highway in the Southwest suburbs of Denver Colorado.

She was talking on the phone with a friend when all of a sudden her phone went dead. When her friend couldn't reach Alexa she decided to track her phone through a finder app and saw her car was stationary along that highway.

The friend then drove out to the location and discovered Alexa deceased in her car, the front windshield smashed.

When authorities discovered a rock had killed Alexa the site immediately became a crime scene and the investigators went to work. Within a relatively short amount of time they had geo-tracked cell phones of three young men who were in the vicinity of Alexa's murder, as well as a fourth young man who was with them earlier. The testimony of that fourth teenager filled in much of what had happened prior to the other three killing Alexa.

The boys had taken a number of rocks from a Walmart parking lot earlier in the day, at which time the fourth young man asked to be taken home. Knowing the boys were likely up to no good and possibly trouble, he decided to separate himself from them. It was likely the best decision he had made thus far in his short life.

The three suspects then went on a chaos causing spree, throwing rocks at 6-8 other vehicles in the area. Eventually they were traveling along Indiana Street, along a wildlife refuge and threw a rock at a car that was coming in the opposite direction.

The unfortunate victim was Alexa Bartell.

In an amazing act of callousness and indifference, the three boys turned around and actually took a picture of Alexa's car that had drifted off the road and into a field before it came to a stop.

The three suspects have been charged with 1st degree murder, multiple counts of attempted murder and other charges.
