Description

On this episode I am joined by Geralyn Ritter. She has recently released a book: Bone by Bone a Memoir of Trauma and Healing.  She was on her way home from an ordinary business trip when Amtrak 188 derailed outside of Philadelphia. She was crushed in the crash, which killed eight and injured hundreds. A hundred percent of the proceeds from the book will be going to trauma professionals, medicine and survivors as well.

We talk about what the immediate aftermath of the accident was like for her and her family.  She shares her experiences with trauma, resilience and gratitude. She also shares how devastating and depressing this time was for her and her loved ones. The resentment and pain her and her husband endured trying to find a way to go from a typical husband and wife to a care-giver and patient. The overwhelming support of her community and how it really helped her prioritize relationships in a way that most of us take for granted.

Her experience really shows that two things can be true at the same time. You can wish something didn't happen and be grateful for some of the lessons it brought as well.
