Donald Trump's inaugural address tried to make the case that American cities are rife with "carnage" in the streets, which he dogwhistled was due to immigrants and people of color. The statistics of mass shootings in the US prove otherwise, and Las Vegas is just the latest and most horrifying example. Once again, the message of GOP talking points is "now is not the time" to talk about reasonable gun safety legislation. However, Congress has quietly withdrawn a proposal to allow citizens to purchase silencers (which was originally scheduled for a vote just before members of Congress were shot during softball practice). And there appears to be a willingness of some Republican Senators to talk about banning "bump stocks," which the Las Vegas killer used to modify his semi-automatic weapons into non-stop killing machines. MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills will also talk about the non-Vegas news of the week: including Puerto Rico, the Russia investigation, and the gerrymandering case before the Supreme Court.
