Have you ever felt “I can’t do this” ? “This is beyond my skills level. What if they find out I can’t do this “?
My conversation this week is with a woman, of course - and a mother - born in Hawaii of Japanese and Hawaiian parents who became the first woman of Japanese descent to become a mayor of a city in the US.
And she never believed that she could do that.
JoAnne Yukimura. She has a wonderful, engaging, and even inspiring story of growing up on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, the daughter of social worker parents, she studied law at Stanford but then knew she had to return to Hawaii and herself commit to public service.
Her journey took her, after a couple of attempts, to become a city counsellor. She then realized that to make any real impact, she needed to become Mayor.
And she did.
This is her inspiring story.
