Meet Becs Cox
Becs is the manager of the Mercury Bay Museum, a place that brings guests face-to-face with their heritage. The museum features exhibits about the Polynesian navigator Kupe, Maori artifacts, the Endeavour and James Cook, HMS Buffalo (sunk 1840), kauri timber and gum, the old dairy factory in which the museum is housed, early settlers’ records, natural history, fishing displays and a remarkable photographic collection.
The Museum had a reduced number of visitors during the pandemic but now is at full steam with new projects and also events like the ‘Museum After Dark!’ a fantastic Halloween celebration fundraiser.
Mercury Bay plays an essential role in the history of Aotearoa, New Zealand. Becs visits local schools and supports teachers with lectures and material that can be used in class.
