Meet Becs Wood and Martinus Sarangapany
Becs and Martinus make a cool couple. They enjoy creating beautiful art inspired by the place they live or have visited, allowing them to take on frequent ‘inspiration’ road trips.
Becs mainly draws with Biro Pen and pencil, complementing certain parts with a splash of watercolour paint. In her day job as a physiotherapist, she travels great distances, mostly in the Coromandel and has time to form her next piece in her head as she goes. Becs is also interested in cartography and geography and often uses a map to plan out the composition of a drawing.
Born in the Far North, Martinus has lived a rather nomadic lifestyle. Graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in 2014, he took part in a residency at Te Kowhai Print Trust. This is where he began experimenting with the many printmaking techniques and found an affinity with woodcut.
Martinus has taken part in many exhibitions throughout the country as well as exhibiting in America, Argentina, Australia, and China. He also helped to organise the biggest print event in New Zealand, “Printapalooza”, a largescale print festival using a two-tonne road roller.
