Meet Brando Yelavich
Brando Yelavich is an explorer from Aotearoa who, at the age of 19, in 2014, was the first person to walk the coastline of New Zealand (8700km over 600 days). Brando cycled across the Australian desert, crossed the Greenland icecap, repaired broken homes, delivered clothing in Nepal, and circumnavigated Vancouver Island. No rest for the wicked!
Brando inspires people worldwide by telling his story about overcoming his childhood struggles with ADHD and depression by undertaking multiple extreme expeditions. His hyperactive brain moves fast. Over the years, he learned to understand it, work with it, and use it to his advantage. Brando uses moments in his long expedition to analyse his life, ask deep questions, and confront his fears and worries.
He produced three books, and in 2015, Brando was awarded Kiwibank Local Hero Auckland. In 2014, Brando was a runner-up for the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year and in 2013, Brando received the prestigious 'Warrant Officer of the Defence Force Award' from the LSV, for the most effective team member and leadership.
