Show 160 – Jane Parson (Mercury Bay Art Escape)
Welcome to the Altbays Show (Feat. Leo Magri)
Meet Jane Parson
Jane is a printmaker and painter and works from her home studio at Hahei.
Born and raised on the edge of the Mackenzie Country in the South Island the
simplicity of the landscape, along with the shapes and the colours of the region, have
influenced her creative endeavours ever since.
A career as a graphic artist in advertising agencies, founding partnership in The
Hang Up Gallery (now called The Parnell Gallery) in Parnell Auckland, while also
working as a cabin crew member preceded a move to San Francisco for seven years
where she took classes in watercolour painting. The return to New Zealand saw her
owning a homewares store in Auckland for 15 years before retiring with her husband
to Hahei and involvement as a Trustee with administration and fundraising roles for
Mercury Bay Art Escape for over 12 years.
Jane enjoys painting in acrylic, cold wax medium and natural pigments. Printmaking
also forms an integral part of her art practice.
The natural pigments used in some works are sourced from the very varied organic
colours of the Coromandel clays. In her printmaking she uses collagraph, monotype
and etching techniques and sometimes a combination of several of these plates to
create an image.
Janes works can be found in collections in New Zealand, Australia and the UK and at the Mercury Bay Art Escape Open Studios.
