Meet Paul Schneider
Paul first caught the ‘distilling bug’ when he and his partner Daniela experimented with mead, made from the mānuka honey from their own hives on the Coromandel’s west coast.
Not long after, their little guest cabin was transformed into a tiny coastal distillery, filled with the fragrances of fermenting liquids, spices, herbs, and honey.
As good scientists, they started experimenting. They organised a blind-tasting event inviting a range of people from all walks of life. It was ten of the world’s most praised gins, together with their ‘moonshine’. The findings were clear, commercial distillery was the way to go.
They won Gold Award at the New Zealand Spirits Awards 2020 with their very first commercially distilled gin ‘The Cuckoo’ and World’s Best Classic Gin 2022 with ‘Awildian’.
