Renee is a freediving instructor, the Founder of Salt Aotearoa, and also a Clinician and the Director at Swallow and Speech Therapy Consultants Ltd, a speech-language therapy private practice specializing in aged care.
Renee's passion lies in inspiring a deeper connection with the moana (ocean). Through her work as a freediving instructor, she encourages people to explore the realms of freediving, spearfishing, and gathering kaimoana (seafood). While Renee herself is relatively new to these activities, having discovered freediving and spearfishing at the age of 30, their impact on her life has been profound. Now, she is eager to share her experiences, especially with other wahine Māori (Māori women).
Renee believes that these activities can not only reconnect individuals with their Māoritanga (Māori cultural identity) but also reshape their perspectives on the human impact on the moana (ocean) and our taiao (natural world).
Salt Aotearoa, founded by Renee, provides exciting opportunities for people to embrace the water and learn the art of freediving. The company hosts a range of events and diving camps, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for participants. Through Salt Aotearoa, Renee aims to cultivate a deep appreciation for the ocean, empowering individuals to develop their skills and foster a profound connection with the wondrous world beneath the waves.
