In this episode of our podcast, we will be exploring the theme of awakening through the lens of the biblical book of Ephesians. Pastor Rick, announces the start of a new series of studies on this book, which he describes as a preserved text that can help people awaken to thoughts that will transform their lives and secure their eternities.
With the rise of wokeness, cancel culture, and critical race theory, Pastor Rick argues that these movements are not the answer to the world's issues and, in fact, perpetuate more problems than they solve. Instead, he turns to the historical context of the book of Ephesians, explaining that it was written by the Apostle Paul while he was in prison in Rome to the Ephesian Christians for their admonition and encouragement.
Moving on to the topic of praise, Pastor Rick suggests that ignorance is a reason why individuals may not give God the praise that he deserves. He argues that the expression of praise depends on the depth of an individual's perspective about who God is and what he has done for them. Citing the Apostle Paul's letter to the Ephesians, he emphasizes the idea that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing and has chosen us before the foundation of the world, urging individuals to praise God for the Father's choice of them.
Pastor Rick notes that tough times can make it difficult for Christians to believe that they are blessed, but argues that understanding God's blessings is essential to back up the claim that Christians are blessed beyond measure. He delves into the passage in Ephesians chapter one, which is about the wonder, motivation, and glory of God's choice to save those who are rebellious towards Him. It reveals that God is not asking us to try to figure out who is elect or chosen, but instead to be astounded, humbled, and revel in the fact that if we are Christians, it is because God chose us.
The passage states that God chose us to be set apart and reserved for Him, to be blameless before Him, and predestined us to adoption as Sons through Christ Jesus to himself. From this, the two applications arising are that Christians should recognize that God has already spiritually blessed them in every way possible, and for those who do not know Jesus Christ, to understand that they too have the chance to become a Christian and that God desires to save them.
