In this episode I share what I focused on to finally break free from diet mindset, and make lasting health changes that feel second nature instead of an endless slog. 

If you're exhausted with the diet industry but want to lose weight or prioritise your health, this episode is for you. 

One of the biggest challenges with dietary changes, weight loss, health issues is that we become hyper focused on the challenge or suffering or struggle. 

And I get it, but the focus being on the lack of cookies or lack of energy or lack of good mood or lack of having the body we want, creates a mindset that feels heavy and hard. 

As we’re doing things that could make us feel better we’re thinking thoughts that make us feel horrible. Like we’re trying to figure out how to fly, not realising we have a 73 pound backpack on that’s making even just walking feel hard. 

I would say the two things I would suggest to anyone who’s HAD it with diet culture, or who’s sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, or who’s tired of feeling uncomfortable in her body, or who’s ready to start loving herself in all her seasons are:

  1. Spend time redefining what beauty is and what your body needs to look like to be beautiful in your mind. This is huge for my midlife ladies. Because as we age and go through perimenopause and into our menopausal years, there’s been a lifetime of negative narrative around ageing and beauty and body… and ALL of it, and I do mean ALL of it, is based on bullsh*t.  So, it’s our job to actually figure out how we want to age, and how we want to look, WHY we want that, and what PREREQUISITES we’re putting in place before we can actually like ourselves.
  2. Redefining our relationship with feeling our feelings, and food consumption. I have yet to work with someone who doesn’t have a deeply nuanced relationship with both their emotions and food, that has gone completely unchecked or unexplored for the entirety of their life. This can mentally, emotionally and physically impact our life in very real ways. From disease to depression and to a lifetime spent believing your value is in your body.
