I was born in New York in the 60's into a dysfunctional family and am the third of four kids. Because of my home situation - with an alcoholic father and a mother who was very sick for many years, I learned to survive but not thrive.
Later in life God turned all this negativity around in a big and beautiful way. But first let me take a minute to explain how my music path began in my life.
Music was important to me from the start because my two big sisters were music freaks. They also taught me to play guitar. I learned on a 12 string western guitar. I also learned flute in school and studied a little music theory and classical guitar later on in High School. By this time I was singing in the church and school choirs and made it through the audition for the county choir and I started writing my first songs.
An encounter that changed everything
In the summer of 2011, at a Christian conference, I had an amazing encounter with the Lord that transformed me and gave me hope to get back into music. I got a vision of a CD and a sort of happy faith-filled push in the right direction.
By 2014 I had reeducated myself to be a technical salesperson - still thinking I had to have a day job to support the music. It also gave me time to start playing guitar seriously again. I dusted off my songs and started working with a music producer to begin to record my first songs that would become the Change My Mind album later on.
