Description

What do others think about the church? Does our reputation match our reality? The church at Sardis was respected as a church alive with activity. But Jesus saw them as they really were: dead. Jesus, the risen Lord, calls his church to wake up. Message based on Revelation 3:1-6.

Quotes:
Charles Spurgeon: I believe a very large majority of churchgoers are merely unthinking, slumbering worshipers of an unknown God.

John Wooden: Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Thomas Linacre: Either these are not the gospels, or we are not Christians.

Tim Keller says in a revival three things happen:  sleepy Christians wake up, nominal Christians get saved, and hard-to-reach non-Christians come to faith.

Keith Green: The world is sleeping in the dark, that the church just can’t fight because it’s asleep in the light:  how can we be so dead, when we’ve been so well fed.  Jesus rose from the grave; we can’t even get out of bed.

Appalachian Hymn: Please search the book again.  I thought my name was there.  I went to church on Sundays, but I never knelt in prayer.  It’s too late now I know; please search the book again, before you make me go.
