Description

Mother’s Day and Eastertide converge again this year. What do moms really want? Is it flowers? Or perhaps a beautiful card? From observation, I would offer that moms want all their chicks to come home to the nest. This is not always possible. Jesus’ mother was with the other disciples and apostles when Jesus appeared among them.  Jesus revealed that he had come back to life. Then he gave the greatest gifts to the gathered disciples. Jesus’ resurrection kept his promises to his disciples in the first century and extends those same gifts to us today. Will we receive them?  Message based on Luke 24:36-49.

Quotes:
William Ross Wallace: All the world is in the cradle, and the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.

John Quincy Adams: All that I am, my mother made me.

John Wesley: My heart was strangely warmed.

William Barclay: Jesus promised his disciples three things—that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy, and in constant trouble.

Wolfhart Pannenburg: The evidence for Jesus' resurrection is so strong that nobody would question it except for two things: First, it is a very unusual event. And second, if you believe it happened, you have to change the way you live.

William Willimon:  I don't need a resurrected Jesus. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I want a resurrected Jesus. In fact, [in one sense] a resurrected Jesus is a real nuisance for me, personally. I've got a good life, I've figured out how to work the world, on the whole, to the advantage of me and my friends and family. My health is good, and everybody close to me is doing fine. I have the illusion that I'm in control, that I'm making a so significant contribution to help Jesus … on my own. No, I don't need a bodily resurrected Jesus. In fact, [once I truly embrace the resurrection of Jesus], my life would become much more difficult.

Paul Eshleman: The crowd exploded as if a dam had burst.  Everyone began cheering and dancing and hugging one another and jumping up and down.

Jurgen Moltmann: God weeps with us so that we may someday laugh with him.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Lack of repentance is the root cause of powerlessness in the church, in this materialistic, self-indulgent age. There can be no spiritual power in a non-repentant church.

George Whitefield: God forbid that I should travel with anybody a quarter of an hour without speaking of Christ to them.

Duane Brooks: I woke up this morning thinking about my momma and her front row seat in heaven today, and she loved Mother's Day so much. And this is what I thought, what would mom want me to do? I tell you what my mom would want to do. In her present position, in the peace of Christ, seeing the power and glory of God, she would want me to tell you about her savior. And so I have.
