Prayer of Victory
Holy Father, enable me to obey Your will & to live a holy life that pleases You.
Lord Jesus, activate my faith to abide in Your truth and walk in Your love.
Holy Spirit, fill me so I that I may be kept from indulging the flesh, from conforming to the world, and from believing the lies of the evil one.
As someone born of God, I’m trusting You for the victory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
1. Aware of the Enemies of God
1 John 2:14b-17 (NASB) 14b I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.
The Downward Slide
1. Discouragement – health setback, repair costs, children disobedient, family grudges, cancelled flight, close friend moves.
2. Defeat – unable to break a pattern of anger, violence, profanity, complaining, impatience, overeating, alcohol abuse, pornography.
3. Despair – fatal diagnosis, loss of job, storm devastation, marital infidelity, loved one dies.
2. ANOINTED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD And we know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit
whom He has given us. (3:24) See 4:13.
By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; (4:2)
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. (4:4)
And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about
all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. (2:27)
The Upward Recovery
1. Belief – Trust Christ as Savior and Lord, Identify with Jesus and Join the Family of God. Begin sensitivity to indwelling Spirit.
2. Abide – Keep believing, Stay close, Be filled with the Holy Spirit, God’s Truth, inspirational worship, godly choices, moral examples.
3. Walk in Love – Multiply God’s love to others in service, witness & discipleship. Express your heavenly hope enthusiastically.
3. ABIDING IN THE SON OF GOD
1 John 4:4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
1 John 5:4 For whoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-- our faith.
1 John 2:14 I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. See Jn 8:31-32.
1 John 2:6 The one who says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same manner in which He walked.
Are you:
Aware of the enemies of God? Anointed by the Spirit of God? Abiding in the Son of God? Discouraged, Defeated or Despairing? Believing, Abiding, Victorious?
