Message based on Acts 2:1-13, 36-42.
Happy Birthday dear church! Happy Birthday to You! Tallowood met for the first time 65 years and two weeks ago. We did not have a pastor or own a building or land. The first church began in a prayer meeting over 2000 years ago. They did not have a building or land. But on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit filled them with power and Peter the former denier became Peter the proclaimer. He spoke the very words of God from the word of God about the living Word of God. The church filled with the Holy Spirit shared a powerful message about Jesus. This unstoppable gospel caused the church to grow. Good news: the same power that lived in Peter lives in us. Jesus is still transforming lives. The church is re-formed and always re-forming.
Quotes:
Gordon Smith says the church is Evangelical, Sacramental, and Pentecostal . . . we teach the good news of Jesus from the scriptures; we participate in baptism and the Lord’s Supper; we live in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Vance Havner said, "We are not going to move this world by criticism of it, or conformity to it, but by the combustion within it of lives ignited by the Spirit of God.
Spurgeon: Whatever your text is, cut cross-country to the cross as soon as you can.
William Booth: The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, heaven without hell.
