Description

Message based on 1 Peter 5:1-5

What do we look for in leaders? What may members expect of ministers? What may ministers expect of members? In the ancient world, God often chose shepherds of sheep to shepherd his people. In this discipleship manual called 1 Peter, Peter invites the leaders in the church to examine their own motives for ministry. I know. This was a long time ago. Perhaps it is time to go back to the book together to see what God says to shepherds.

Quotes:

Wayne Jacobsen: Spiritual authority flows not from titles and positions but from a life that is genuine.

George W. Truett: I have sought and found a pastor’s heart.

Albert Schweitzer: Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.

Merrill Tenney: If a church wants a better pastor, it can get one by praying for the one it has.

Robert Murray McCheyne:  Remember you are God’s sword, his instrument – I trust a chosen vessel unto Him to bear His name.  In great measure, according to the purity and perfection of the instrument will be the success.  It is not great talent God blesses so much as likeness to Jesus.  A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God.
