Description

This psalm is a little different from the ones we have already talked about.  While it is a lament, it is also penitential.  David is going through some things and he has done something that requires him to beg God not to discipline him in His anger.  We don't know the specifics and we don't know when David wrote this.  What we do get to see is David crying out to God for mercy and the relief that comes when David knows God has heard him.  I imagine it is the peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).

• When God disciplines us, we can despise it, resist it, collapse under it and quit, or accept it and submit.  What God is seeking is submission.
• If we turn to God, pray, remember His promises, and trust Him, we will find His grace sufficient for our needs (2 Cor 12:9).  The Lord may not do what we ask when we want it, but He will do what needs to be done and help us glorify His name.
