Description

In today's episode of "Help Me, Rhonda!," clinical psychologist Dr. Rhonda Karg presents some of the biological, emotional and behavioral factors that contribute to our reactions to the end of a romantic relationship. She also offers several ways to help you heal after a break-up, including skill called thought-stopping and compartmentalizing or "putting things in a suitcase." These skills are used to pause our emotional suffering after a break-up so it doesn't negatively affect us in our daily lives.  It's a way to stop and remove painful thoughts that are causing suffering so we can be present, work, take care of our responsibilities and live our lives. This skill set is especially important for individuals who are a highly sensitive person or HSPs. Compartmentalizing must be combined with holding space for those feelings for 15 min/day, and then putting the suffering back "in a suitcase" so your can get on with your day. Dr. Karg also emphasizes the importance of practicing self-compassion, patience, and other forms of self-care to improve your physical and mental well-being.
