In today’s episode of “Help Me, Rhonda!,” clinical psychologist Dr. Rhonda Karg discusses the importance of checking in with yourself to see how you're feeling and if your arousal level is above a 6 or 7 on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being completely calm and 10 being in the red zone, to practice self-soothing to get your activation level down to a 3 or 4. This will allow you to pause before reacting so you can choose how to respond to a situation and you won't be simply reacting because you are adrenalized and in fight-or-flight mode. Self-soothing is so important for your mental health. Dr. Karg discusses various ways to check in with yourself and self-sooth using the 5 senses.
