TW/CW: Graphic depictions of lobotomies, poor treatment of epileptics, the intellectually disabled and people with mental health issues, suicide and suicidal ideation
Dr. Walter Jackson Freeman II saw the suffering in the asylums in the 1920's and wanted to do something to help. But in his hubris and pursuit of a cure for mental illness, he didn't count the lives damaged and lost due to his (even at the time) highly controversial treatment: the frontal lobotomy. Ever the showman, he did these on the road and in front of audiences with an icepick he'd taken from his own kitchen. One of his most famous patients, Rosemary Kennedy, was left horribly disabled by this killer cure. Join us as we look back on the horrors of the frontal lobotomy.
