Fred Russell was one of the most well-known and well-respected sportswriters in his day. There are few who can match his popularity or his ability to involve his readers.
In his Sideline Sidelights column published in the Thursday, August 16, 1990 edition of the Nashville Banner, Russell published “a team of Nashville Vol players (1901-1963) who after leaving Sulphur Dell fared best in the big leagues”.
