John 8:32 (KJV) - And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Two weeks ago we did a message on the enemy focusing on his greatest tactic: deception. When Satan speaks, he lies. There is no truth in him even when he tries to make what he says sound like truth. He cannot be trusted for a millisecond. Yet, according to Jesus, more and more people will be deceived as time gets closer to the end.
Matthew 24:4-5 NKJV
“And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”
Satan wants to trap or snare people just like a hunter would trap an animal. How does a trap work? By not looking like a trap. For an animal a trap could either be hidden or include something enticing for the animal – like food. The entire purpose is to make the animal think everything is normal and that there is something there for them. Then WHAM!
I Peter 5:8 NKJV
”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.“
The devil is a trap setter. He’s going around looking for someone who will fall for his deception. The bait is ready, the trigger mechanism setup. He needs someone to walk into it and take the bait. Think about a movie where the bad guys lure someone into doing something bad when they thought they were doing something good. There is disguise, trickery and lies – all to get the target to do one thing wrong.
That’s exactly the devil. He wants you to do one thing wrong to get you off the path, to get you out of trusting God, to get you to stop believing. That just opens the door for him and once we’ve opened the door, he has a right to come in.
