If you remember the days of vinyl records, then you may remember what happened to them when they got a scratch. Often they would get stuck and repeat a section over and over. That is where the clique, "like a broken record" comes from. It means to repeat something over and over, often in an annoying fashion.
In 5th grade, one of my classmates called me "fat." That has stayed in my mind "like a broken record" to this day. I've given that phrase too much power over my self-image for many years. It's hard to fix a "broken record," but it's not impossible.
All of us have those phrases that keep us from loving ourselves better. Let's see if we can rewrite some of them.
