Many years ago I was asked to give a talk on the positive effect of laughing. From my research, I learned things that changed my approach to life that are with me to this day. One of those things is the importance of belly laughing. It exercises your body, but also your spirit and your soul. I had to reflect about the last time I had belly laughed. Now, because I decided to listen for absurdities, observe the comical sense of human nature, and just enjoy the lightness of a moment, I have increased my belly laughing many times over. It does not involve mean laughter, put down laughter, or laughter at the expense of another, it involves genuine and simple laughing at parts of life that allow us to not take it so seriously and enjoy the journey.

I talked to a good friend going through the beginning stages of chemotherapy. We talked about the fear people have when having conversation with those who face this kind of medical experience. We talked about the need for laughter to help us ride through the tough times. Even in grief, there is a need for laughter to help manage the darkness and ease into some sort of equilibrium to endure the challenges of working of through a death.

Laughter...the free pill, the prescription to better living.

Thanks for listening!
