Today we are here with Steve Keighery. Steve is an Australian entrepreneur and property investor. His Australian home and improvement business is built on a capitalization of $350 million. He moved his family to New Orleans and founded Home Buyer Louisiana, which acquires distressed properties directly from owners to flip, rent, and wholesale. He has a rental portfolio in three states, including Australia and Louisiana. Steve's favorite method is the bar method, and he has aggressive goals to continuously his rental portfolio.
He started by fully investing in a consulting business and then got into real estate investing after being awakened on the financial and business side by Robert Kiyosaki. Robert taught about the cash flow quadrant, and to be on the right side of the quadrant, he couldn’t be an employee or self-employed. He had to build a business and use it to venture into real estate. Steve always had a desire to be in real estate but had to build his business first. In real estate, he started with off-market properties. He did a little research to find growing areas in other states and then buy them with bank finance loans.
After building a portfolio with six properties, Steve left his company and took his family on a 6-month vacation. Two months into the vacation, they realized that they couldn’t leave. They fell in love with the city, and he started looking for opportunities. Steve realized that the real estate market in America is so much better than in Australia in terms of cash flow and rental properties. With so many opportunities available, he decided to do full-time property investment in Louisiana.
