Brian Aquart sits down with Yasmeen Hassan, an Emmy award-winning news anchor and co-founder of HCue Consulting, to discuss her decision to leave the media industry after 15 years. Yasmeen shares her journey from Cairo, Egypt to the United States and her experiences working in media, both behind the scenes and as an on-air anchor. Despite the glamour and excitement of being involved in major events and telling people's stories, Yasmeen found herself longing for more fulfillment in her professional life.
Yasmeen's story begins with the sacrifices she made throughout her career, constantly moving to new cities and leaving behind friends, family, and important life events. She reached a point where the grind of the news industry, combined with the isolation of the pandemic, took a toll on her happiness. Anchoring from home during COVID-19 made her realize the impact of being alone and missing out on personal connections.
Leaving the media industry, Yasmeen stepped outside the spotlight and co-founded HCue Consulting, a communication consulting firm. Now, instead of waking up in the middle of the night to deliver the news, Yasmeen enjoys a more regular schedule, focusing on helping professionals refine and deliver their messaging. It is a dream come true for her.
