AND THAT’S ALL (FOR 2025) FOLKS!

COMMENTARY.

Free hugs for everyone who came out for BOBBY ROE’s Birthday Bash on Thursday night (The SALTON SEA is better than I remembered) and LET IT SNOW - ROCK N ROLL on Friday night. Both were jam-packed barrels of jolly primates.

ELLA MCCAY. From Writer/Director James L Brooks (Broadcast News, As Good as it Gets, Terms of Endearment) and featuring Albert Brooks (no-relation) a rom-com look at the modern world of relationships as families, friends and lovers try to sort it all out. Stars Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson and Jamie Lee Curtis. I had to search far, wide and with AI assistance to find a single positive review on this one.  It seems to me that hiring Hans Zimmer to compose a 1950’s TV sitcom score is like asking Babe Ruth to bunt. 50% like it and 50% don't.

MARTY SUPREME. The following (from MARTY SUPREME) is a picture-perfect tag-line: Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. THAT, dear friends, is pure writing genius, and the reason why tag-lines are so challenging. As Harry might say: “You’ve got to ask yourself one question (punk), will the film live up to that gem of a synopsis?” And let us not forget that Director Josh Safdie also helmed UNCUT GEMS. Stars Timothee Calamet, Gwyneth Paltrow and Odessa A’Zion. You want some Onomatopoeia? Try Ping-Pong!

COMING UP in JAN. CELEBRATE! FILM and MUSIC. A two-night experience in homage of the music of New Orleans. Friday Jan 9, the screening of the award-winning doc UP FROM THE STREETS, by local filmmakers Michael Murphy and Cicelia Eberle (podcast with Michael link here). The next night is a celebration of the music that made the film sizzle as THE REAL LADY A brings her acclaimed band to the stage for some tasty R&B, Blues, Soul, Gospel, Jazz and Funk. We have three ticket packages available; Film only, Music only or a discounted BOTH Film & Music op. I highly recommend the latter of the three, but you decide which best suits your cultural requirements.

LAST MINUTE SHOPPING? We have some very cool movie posters left, a couple dozen logoed pint beer glasses, a few T-Shirts from our 87th Anniversary Extravaganza and as many Gift Cards (good at Bainbridge Cinemas as well) as you would like to purchase. Discounts when buying for the entire team, company or neighborhood. Lastly today folks, how about a quick ask of the cosmos for a little compassion for our Marketing Guru Emily and her Family who live up in North Bend on the banks of the overflowing Middle Fork of the Snohomish River? If you are a religious type, maybe put in a good word there too. Thanks.
