Description

John, Chapter 1 -

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of mankind. 5 And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not grasp it.

-          In the beginning (this is where it all started)

-          Was the Word (the Word is God’s thoughts; it is His intentions; it is The Truth)

-          And the Word was with God (part of Him, in Him)

-          And the Word was God (this is a declaration of Divinity – and its absolute)

-          He was in the beginning with God (notice it is now He; a son)

-          All things came into being through Him (all things means “all things”; came into being means “created” by Him – Jesus)

-          Not even one thing came into being that come in being (not even one thing came into being “nothing was created not even one” except what He created)

-          In Him was life, and the life was the Light of mankind (the very breath of life was in Him and the life was the Light of mankind; Light is the beginning of sight, the ability to see, comprehend and understand; without light you cannot see, understand or comprehend)

-          And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not grasp it (Darkness could not understand Light; Darkness ceases to exists when Light is present)

The Witness John the Baptist

6 A man came, one sent from God, and his name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

-          A man came, one sent from God (notice the man came; from where to where?; one sent by God – from Heaven to the Earth)

-          his name was John (John means The grace or mercy of the Lord; Jehovah has been gracious; has shown favor) This is what God was announcing.

-          He came as a witness, to testify about the Light (to come as a witness is a legal matter to testify under oath of a fact to establish absolute truth; John came to testify the truth about what?; to testify about the Light (Jesus) to establish and confirm Jesus is from God and is absolute truth)

-          So that all might believe through him (“so that”, this is John’s purpose; all might believe)

-          He was not the Light (John is not the Light, not Jesus; but he came to testify about the Light (to again confirm and establish that Jesus is the Son of God)

9 This was the true Light that, coming into the world, enlightens every person. 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own people did not accept Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.

-          This was the true Light (notice He is the true light; not the false light; 2 Cor 11:14 the devil disguises himself as an angel of light)
