John, Chapter 14 - Jesus Comforts His Disciples
14 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, [c]I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be.
- Do not let your heart be troubled (BOOM, GOD is in Control)
- Believe in God, believe also in Me (because Jesus is from God)
- In my Father’s house are many rooms (lots of room for everyone)
- If that were not so, I would have told you (another words – don’t worry)
o Because I am going there to prepare a place for you (this why you don’t need to worry!; Jesus is preparing a place for you; its under construction now)
- And if I go and prepare a place of you, I am coming again and will (not maybe) take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be (it’s HUGE AWESOME PROMISE)
4 And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.
- And you know the way where I am going (they should have! Jesus has been preaching it)
- Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way? (Incredible that that Thomas still doesn’t know)
- Jesus aid to him “I am the way, and the truth, and the life…”
o I am the way (the only way, the front gate into heaven)
o And the truth (Jesus is truth; He is the Savior; who came to save us)
o And the life (eternal life, the best life, the most blessed life)
o No one comes to the Father except through Me (there is only one way and Jesus is The Way, believe in Him, trust in the cross to pay for your sin and you’re in)
§ Nobody comes to the Father any other way
Oneness with the Father
7 If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”
- If you had known Me (this sentence begins with a negative supposition “if you had known Me implies that they didn’t know Him)
- You would have known My Father also (God)
- From now on you know Him, and have seen Him ! (Jesus declares He is God)
8 Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me?
- Philip said to Him “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us”
o Man continues to look for something besides Jesus
- Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philp?”
