John, Chapter 16  - Jesus’ Warning

16 “These things I have spoken to you so that you will not be led into sin. 2 They will ban you from the synagogue, yet an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering a service to God. 3 These things they will do because they have not known the Father nor Me. 4 But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. However, I did not say these things to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

-          These things I have spoken to you so that you will not be led into sin (apparently Jesus’s disciples could still be led into sin unless they listen to what Jesus had spoken (how about us?)

-          They will ban you from the synagogue (cast out of societal standing, unable to buy and sell in the their market place, looked down upon as an outcast)

-          Yet an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering a service to God (they will be so full of their own form righteousness that will actually think they are doing God a favor by killing you; this is satanic)

-          These things I they will do because they have not  known the Father nor Me (they don’t know the Father or Jesus so they must be following another god, the so called god of this world – the devil)

-          I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them (it was not to be surprise to them because Jesus told them so)

-          It’s a serious warning

The Holy Spirit Promised

5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: 9 regarding sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; 11 and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

-          But now I am going to Him who sent Me (Jesus is going back to heaven)

-          And none of you asks Me, “Where are You going?” (because they knew where this time)

-          Grief has filled your heart. But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you (this would be worse!)

-          But it I go, I will send Him to you (notice who sends Him)

-          And He, when He comes, will:

o   Convict the world regarding sin

o   And righteousness

o   And judgement

o   It’s black and white (in writing and no longer debatable)

-          Regarding sin because they do not believe in Me (this is the unpardonable sin)

-          And regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father (the Highest Form of Righteousness)

-          And you are no longer going to see me (for a short time)
