Psalm 101
Of David. A psalm.
1 I will sing of your love and justice;
to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
- The name David means “beloved”
- The name psalm means “a sacred song or hymn”
- David was beloved of God even though He had sinned with Bathsheba
o David repented and it was later said that he was a man after God’s own heart
o So we learn from this example, that although we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s standards, we are still beloved when we repent (turn and go the opposite direction) and ask for forgiveness
o We then receive mercy & grace instead of judgment
o When this fact becomes a reality in your heart you too will want sing the song of Psalm 101
- I will sing of your love and justice
o The first thing we sing about is God’s love (because He loved sinners)
o The second thing we sing about is justice (rewarding people for their actions in a just way; punishment for evil; blessings for good)
- To you, Lord, I will sing praise
o This is very specific (we sing to the Lord Jesus Christ alone)
o We sing praise (to glorify; to express favorable judgement of; commend)
§ Thankworthy response
2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
- If you know you are a sinner and God saved you
- If you know He loves you anyway because you put your faith in Jesus Christ who paid your sins
- If you are singing because of His love and justice and praising Him, then this is what you would want to do next!
- I will be careful to lead a blameless life
o When you receive blessing from God you want more
o You don’t want to do anything that would displease God
o Therefore, you become more careful than ever
§ To lead a blameless life
§ This means to follow God’s word as closely as possible
§ Thoughtfully, carefully, prayerfully, intentionally
