Psalm, Chapter 103
Praise for the Lord’s Mercies.
A Psalm of David.
103 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
- The title of this message is Praise for the Lord’s Mercies
o We praise God for His mercies (plural)
o His mercies are new every morning (thank God)
o Mercies is not getting what you deserve even though you keep sinning
o Lets thank God and praise God for His mercies!
- Bless the Lord, O my Soul
o Your soul is the everlasting part
o It is the core of you really are
o Let the blessing well up from deep inside
- And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
o What is all that is in you?
o It’s more than your soul – its everything else too
o All of you should bless His holy name
§ The name of Jesus Christ is what makes a man or woman holy
§ Only faith in Jesus Christ has the power to cleanse us over & over
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;
3 Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;
4 Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
5 Who satisfies your [a]years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
- Bless the Lord, O my soul
o This is repeated for emphasis
- And forget none His benefits
o We should memorize His benefits
§ Who pardons all your iniquities (that means mine and yours personally)
§ Who heals all your diseases (makes you well again)
§ Who redeems your life from the pit (rescued from the pit of hell)
§ Who crowns you with lovingkindness & compassion (on your head)
§ Who satisfies your years with good things (faithful year after year)
§ So that your youth is renewed like the eagle (still able to soar)
o First He heals us spiritually; then physically; then eternally; then mentally and from the heart; then materially; then actively so we soar into old age!
6 The Lord performs [b]righteous deeds
And judgments for all who are oppressed.
- The Lord performs righteous needs (these are deed He does not that we do)
- And judgements for all who are oppressed (this means He sets them free or provides)
- He turns wrongs into rights!
7 He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the sons of Israel.
- Moses saw God bring the ten plagues upon Egypt
- Moses saw God set His people free from bondage
- Moses saw God part the Red Sea
- Moses received the ten commandments on the mountain (thunder & lightening)
