Psalm, Chapter 106
Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Deliverances.
106 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
- The title is “Israel’s rebelliousness and the Lord’s Deliverances”
o This seems to be irony
o Israel’s rebelliousness
§ It seems this should turn to punishment
o And the Lord’s Deliverances
§ Deliverance seems like the opposite reward for rebelliousness
§ It’s called grace
- As a result we have the first verse
- Praise the Lord!
o Because He delivers us in spite of our rebelliousness
- Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good
o We must thank the Lord for He is good even when are not
- For His lovingkindness is everlasting
o That means it is without end
2 Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the Lord,
Or can show forth all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who keep [c]justice,
[d]Who practice righteousness at all times!
- It’s hard to keep track of all the mighty deeds of the Lord
o We could never praise Him enough
- We are blessed
4 Remember me, O Lord, in Your favor [e]toward Your people;
Visit me with Your salvation,
5 That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may glory with Your [f]inheritance.
- We want the Lord to remember us by name
o If your name is written in the book of life – you are saved
- You will see the prosperity of His chosen ones (abundantly above0
o You will rejoice in gladness
o And glory with His inheritance
