Psalm, Chapter 110

The Lord Gives Dominion to the King.

A Psalm of David.

110 The Lord says to my Lord:
 “Sit at My right hand
 Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

-          The title is “The Lord gives dominion to the king”

-          The Lord gives (power and authority belong to God alone)

-          The Lord can give it to whom He wants too because its His

-          In this case, He gives Dominion to the King

o   Dominion is the power and authority

§  sovereignty and control

-          a Psalm of David

o   A Psalm is sacred song or hymn

o   David means “beloved”

o   This is a sacred song to be sang by God’s beloved

-          Davis was King of Israel

o   If the LORD (notice all caps) says to my Lord

§  The first word is Jehova

§  The second word is Adon which is Master or Lord

o   This must be God the Father talking about Jesus His Son

-          Sit at My right hand

o   Hebrews 1:3

§  3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and [b]upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

o   1 Peter 3:22

§  21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God [q]for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.

o   Acts 7:55-56

§  55 But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; 56 and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

-          Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet

o   God the Father promised He would make the enemies of Jesus Christ a footstool for Him (under His feet; in complete submission)


 2 The Lord will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying,
“Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”

-          The Lord will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion

o   Jehovah will stretch forth Your strong scepter

§  A staff carried by rulers as a symbol of sovereignty 

o   From Zion

§  The hill of Jerusalem on which the city of David was built

§  Also the location of the New Jerusalem to come

·         A 1,500 mile cube of precious stones
