Psalm, Chapter 12
God, a Helper against the Treacherous.
For the music director; [a]upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David.
12 Help, Lord, for the godly person has come to an end,
For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind.
- God, a Helper against the Treacherous
o Notice the title begins with a description of God as a Helper (capital H)
o And not just a Helper the normal trials and tribulations of life but “against the Treacherous means
§ Likely to betray trust
§ Unreliable
§ Providing insecure footing or support
§ Marked by hidden dangers, hazards or perils
o So God is a Helper against such people
- Help, Lord, for the godly person has come to and end
o David starts with a very startling remark
o It is a urgent cry for Help
§ And then he says that all the godly people have come to and end
§ This means, they’re done, they’re finished; there isn’t anymore
§ Sometimes it seems you can longer find any godly people
- For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind
o To disappear refers to something or someone who was there but they have disappeared and are no longer visible (vanished; completely gone)
o Maybe you too have noticed how scarce it is to find a godly person
