Psalm, Chapter 18
The Lord Praised for Rescuing David.
For the music director. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, [a]who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,
18 “I love You, Lord, my strength.”
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my savior,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.
- The Lord Praised for Rescuing David
o When the Lord rescues you, you should praise him too!
o sometimes we forget to praise God after he does something great for us
- David calls himself the servant of the Lord
o that's the right attitude; so too we should consider ourselves servants of the Lord
- who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day the Lord rescued him
o I like that David did it on the same day (it was immediate)
- notice the Lord did rescue him from the hand of all his enemies not just some!
- all these Nuggets of gold are just in the title and the description at the top
- then David begins in verse one I love you, Lord, my strength
o David loves the Lord and the Lord is his strength
§ How about you? Do you love the Lord? Is he your strength?
- The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my savior
o when the Lord is your rocket means that you're standing on solid ground
o when the Lord is your fortress it means that you run to him for safety and he protects you
o and my savior means that he is the one who saves you from every current trial and for eternity
- my shield and the horn of my salvation my stronghold
o the shield is used to deflect fiery arrows from your enemies
o the horn of my salvation blows a unique sound; It is the sound of victory
- I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised
o I call upon the Lord means that you bring every concern and every issue to the throne of grace
o and then you thank God for hearing your prayer and remain confidently expectant that he's going to answer you therefore, he is worthy to be praised
- and I am saved for my enemies
o this is the result and calling upon the Lord and praising the Lord
