Description

Psalm, Chapter 59

Prayer for Deliverance from Enemies.

For the choir director; set to [a]Al-tashheth. A [b]Mikhtam of David, [c]when Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to kill him.

59 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
[d]Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me.

-          The title of this message is prayer for deliverance from enemies

o   sometimes we need to pray to be delivered from our enemies

o   this means we understand that we're Co dependent on getting God help and that he needs to deliver us because we can't move forward without him

-          for the choir director (which means this was meant to be another song that people would learn and repeat for a specific purpose)

-          a Mikhtam of David

o   Mikhtam means “golden thing that covers or hides” or “precious tablet inscription” the idea is words are so precious it warrants being engraved. A psalm as precious as stamped gold.

-          When Saul sent men and they watched the house in the order to kill him

o   Imagine if there was a king who was your enemy who sent his men to watch her house and wait for you to come or go so they could kill you

o   this is the serious nature of what was going on and what David would need to pray to God about in order for God to deliver him from these enemies who were sent by the king.

2 Deliver me from those who do iniquity
And save me from men of bloodshed.

-          deliver me from those who do iniquity; and save me from men of bloodshed

-          we notice that David's first response was to pray

o   and we note that David prayed for God to deliver him from those who do iniquity

o   and to save him from men of bloodshed

o   this is pretty serious because these men had surrounded David's house and they were watching for him - so David's prayer is very important!

o   whenever you feel like you're surrounded or that there's no way for you to escape some form of trouble make sure that praying to God is the first thing you do not the last

2 Deliver me from those who do iniquity
And save me from men of bloodshed.

-          deliver me from those who do iniquity; and save me from men of bloodshed

-          we notice that David's first response was to pray

o   and we note that David prayed for God to deliver him from those who do iniquity

o   and to save him from men of bloodshed

o   whenever you feel like you're surrounded or that there's no way for you to escape some form of trouble make sure that praying to God is the first thing you do not the last
