Psalm, Chapter 64
Prayer for Deliverance from Secret Enemies.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
64 Hear my voice, O God, in my [a]complaint;
Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
- The title of this message is prayer for deliverance from secret enemies
- it's important to note but David's first reaction is to pray
- and then note that he's praying specifically for deliverance
o this means to be taken from one location and delivered to another
o to go from one set of circumstances to an entirely new set
o when you pray for deliverance God can literally transport you somewhere else
o you can go from trouble to security; from problems to blessings
o from impossible circumstances to amazing miracles
o it's also interesting to note that David is praying for deliverance from secret enemies
§ secret enemies or people who are causing you harm but it's a secret
§ this means they are intentionally deceiving you with the intent to cause harm
- This message is for the choir director so it is meant to be a song again which would be taught and it would be learned and memorized and sing out loud to make sure you never forget
- now in verse one David says “hear my voice, O God, in my complaint”
o When David begins to pray he starts with his first request
§ hear my voice, O God
§ David seems to think it's acceptable to call out to God almighty who was in charge of all the universe and yet it's not too busy to stop and listen to what David has to say (that requires faith all by itself)
§ maybe when you begin to pray next time you should ask God to hear your voice and believe that He will (that he is not too busy for you either)
- David does not just ask God to hear his voice but he says oh God, in my complaint
o this type of complaint is like filing a legal complaint
o as we continue this study we'll find out what this legal complaint is all about
- preserve my life from dread of the enemy
o David is asking that God preserved his life that means to extend it
o and from the dread of the enemy
§ enemies can cause dread which is the fear of what they might do
§ David wants God to take away the fear so he is no longer dreading what might happen
§ if you follow your emotions and your thoughts and you rely on only what you can see and hear then you may be inclined to listen to the news or the threats of enemies or difficulties and it would be easy to slip into dread or fear
§ but you can, I can, we can decide not to listen to the news or the evil activity or plans of evil men and we can literally change the radio station and listen to God's word and praise music instead
§ God has given you free will so that you can change the radio station at anytime from dread to faith
