Psalm, Chapter 67
The Nations Exhorted to Praise God.
For the choir director; with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
67 God be gracious to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine [a]upon us— [b]Selah.
- The title of this message is “The nations exhorted to Praise God”
o First note that this message is to “The Nations”
§ This means all the people of the earth
o The nations are being exhorted
§ Exhorted means to strongly encourage or urge, to make an urgent appeal
o To Praise God
§ It’s like news a global bulletin or news flash
§ We are all being strongly urged to Praise God
· You can’t praise Him unless you believe in Him
· You can’t praise Him unless you know Him
· You can’t praise Him unless you know He saved you
· You can’t praise Him unless you have a thankful heart
- For the choir director; with stringed instruments
o This was meant to be a song that would be sang, taught & repeated
o It was to be sang accompanied by stringed instruments (that’s called music)
§ It takes time to compose music
§ It takes time to practice it
§ The song must be worthy of this effort
- God be gracious to us and bless us
o The song starts with a request to God
o God be gracious to us
§ (this means give us what we don’t deserve
o And bless us
§ this means make us holy; thankful; sanctified; granted protection & provision
- and cause His face to shine upon us – Selah
o this means that God would turn turn His face toward us and the blessings of who He is will automatically flow unto us
o it is the idea of God turning His head to look at us and smile to think fondly of us
2 That Your way may be known on the earth,
Your salvation among all nations.
- Here is the reason God does it
o That Your way may be known on the earth
o When people see real followers of God; they see a blessed people
o They want to have the peace, joy and blessing you have too
o They will come and ask for the reason for the hope that is within you
- Your salvation among the nations
o We are to give an answer to the nations (all the people of the world)
o The answer is “Your Salvation” God’s name Yeshu’a means “God Saves”
o Yeshu’a is where get the English name Jesus
